For many years now, the Askja Lunar Tour has been the most popular guided daytour from Lake Mývatn. It leads through the largest wilderness of Iceland, filled with marvels of nature, driving across lunar landscapes where US-astronauts trained before they ventured to the moon in 1969. Includes Lake Öskjuvatn and the explosion crater Viti. Dimmuborgir (Dark Castles)The Mývatn region is a world of adventure and natural wonders. Among places of particular interests is Dimmuborgir, volcanic rock formations to the east of the lake. The area is characterized by numerous forms of mystery and imagination, carved in lava, created in the violent throes of an extensive volcanic eruption. The best known formation is “the Church”, a cave open at both ends with a high dome-shaped roof.
Lake MývatnIt covers 37 km2 of area and is one of the largest lakes in Iceland. The surroundings are unique, sculpted by volcanic eruptions throughout the ages. Birdlife on and around the lake is abundant – perfect place for birdwatchers.

Town of HúsavíkHúsavík is Þingeyjarsýsla´s centre of administration, trade and services. The town is pleasantly placed, surrounded by beautiful scenery and has become the centre of whale watching in Iceland; a place where tourists come to see those magnificent animals in their natural environment. A good way to spend the day would be to begin by a visit to the Whale Museum, then take a boat trip tour into the bay to watch the whales at play in the dark-blue ocean.
Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods)Goðafoss is in river Skjálfandafljót near main ring road 1. It is not particularly high, but this has not detracted from its fame or beauty. It is divided into two main falls by a rocky promontory at the waterfall edge. The godly name is traced back to an event recorded in Icelandic Sagas, describing how one of the local chieftains, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, dispensed of his heathen gods by throwing them in the falls as a sure sign that he had now converted to Christianity.
